Life Lessons

I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of some of the lessons I learn about life. Quite often something will happen that changes some area of thought. Hope you enjoy and learn as much as I did. Check back often, I'm always learning something new!

#1  "If you're going to walk barefoot, watch your step."
One day a few weeks ago my shoes were hurting my feet, so I took them off and walked across the grass. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and promptly stepped on a bee! Apparently, the bees were enjoying the tiny flowers the carpeted the lawn, and I didn't notice them. I was quite miserable for the next few days, since I was working 16-hour days that week! It took a while for the bottom of my foot to heal, and I learned a very important lesson: If you are going to do something a little more risky than usual, it's important to take a little more caution than you usually do. I never look where I am about to step when wearing shoes, but without the normal protection, I need to change my behavior accordingly. This lesson will probably save me quite a bit of trouble later on!

#2  "Never Assume"
This may seem quite simple, but it is a pit I often fall into. It is so easy to say, "I really want to such-and-such right now, I don't have to finish what I doing, I'll just save it for tomorrow (or later). WRONG! This is never how it works! Odds are whatever might come up "tomorrow" will be more urgent, and you really won't have time to "finish" what you should have done yesterday! Never assume you know what the other person is thinking, or that others know what you are thinking...apply this to anything you want, but never take anything for granted."

#3  "God's dreams for you are better than your own."
I hear a lot about "following your dreams", but who wants to fail in achieving them? It's a lot of hassle and worry to try and keep your life on track with your dreams, so just stop and think: "Sometimes our plans fail, so that God's plans for us might succeed." And isn't it logical that if we have great dreams, God's dreams for us must be infinitely better? If we are surrendered and content in His will, He will take us places we couldn't have come up with in a million years. It's our choice: Follow the dreams, or follow the Dreamer?

#4  "If it sounds unbelievable, it probably is."
In the past few days I have learned the hard way that not everything you hear, or think you heard, is valid enough to be passed on, no matter how great it sounds. The more fanciful something sounds, the more crucial it is to check and double-check with as many people as possible before divulging it to someone else. I will spare you all the gory details, but suffice to say, when you tell someone the wrong facts, it feels like you deceived them...a word to the wise!

#5   "Send 'em up, I'll wait"
I recently heard a story about a US fighter pilot that was flying over hostile airspace. Upon entering, he was immediately alerted over the radio by the hostile forces that demanded that he leave or else. The pilot responded by saying that he had a reason for being there and had no intention of leaving. Furious, the enemy control threatened to send up four of their fighter jets to intercept and attack. Without missing a beat, the pilot coolly responded, "Send 'em up, I'll wait." At this, silence domineered the radio, and the lone pilot was not disturbed again. As funny as this story is, it reminds me of an important lesson the Lord has taught me over the years: God does not want us to be afraid of anything the world or the devil can throw at us. After all, "The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." Even though God has a universe to take care of, He still makes a point of guiding the life that is entrusted to Him. Whenever I am threatened by the devil, God taps me on the shoulder and says, "Tell him to send 'em up, I'll wait."
